NSA is running for cover right since the Edward Snowden’s explosive revelation. However the latest steps by Apple and Google to start encrypting data by default have almost blinded NSA. The steps by Apple and Google have literally laid bare the Federal Government’s plea that spying was not widespread and was done only in rare occasions.
Apple has taken these steps to restore some confidence in the general public which has been badly bruised by the revelations of Edward Snowden about widespread spying of the communications among the general public. The latest encryption will make the hacking into accounts of people more difficult. Gone are the days when NSA could barge into anyone’s accounts with impunity.
iPhone 6 data encryption feature, the latest measure by Apple is to ensure that NSA will not have easy access to iPhone 6 user data.
NSA had discovered more than 38 iPhone and iOS vulnerabilities and was doing a great service by pointing them out. However NSA didn’t received the Cupertino Giant’s gratitude. Apple went on with its plans of encrypting its user’s data and this time this feature will remain enabled by default. It is a welcome move something which will increase user’s confidence which has been shattered by recent revelations. It also proves that even the Federal Government could be pricked and on the defensive.
FBI Director James Comey said in an interview this week that Apple’s data encryption will hurt law enforcement and prevent them from capturing criminals and terrorists.
Comey said, “What concern me about this are companies marketing something expressly to allow people to hold themselves beyond the law. The notion that someone would market a closet that could never be opened – even if it involves a case involving a child kidnapper and a court order – to me doesn’t make any sense. It’s like taking out an ad that says, ‘Here’s how to avoid surveillance – even legal surveillance.”
Comey even said that parents come to FBI asking for proofs about their child’s activities and now that will not be possible. Of course terrorism is also an issue which figures in Comey’s worries.
However all these hue and cry does not ring much with the enormous technology in its hand.
BlackBerry has been using similar encryption technology for a long time now, but NSA still managed to break in BlackBerry’s data.
NSA can surely hack into anyone’s account like knife in butter? If the US government can boss around the whole world, entering any airspace with impunity and killing people how can it act so dumb and innocent?
