In order to provide a better user experience for the SharePoint administrators, Microsoft has tweaked some of its control to let administrators make better usage of the storage resources.
Most of the online organizations use SharePoint for creating websites, storage of files, organizing and sharing the information in a secure environment.
The tweaks done by Microsoft have resulted in more automated processes and have given some flexibility for the usage of SharePoint Online storage within the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
The SharePoint site collections until now had to be allocated a fair amount of storage. The space available beside’s the one assigned was not possible to be used for some other work resulting wastage of resources. However, now that Microsoft has made the changes, it won’t be the same.
A senior product manager from the SharePoint management team said that if an administrator is assigned 50GB for his website, and only 10GB of the assigned space is used, the 40GB space which is remaining from the allocated can be used for other works.
On Monday, Mr Kashman in a blog post wrote, “no longer tie up blocks of reserved storage. Instead, only the actual storage used counts against total pooled storage,” indicating towards the site collections.
One of the other changes made by Microsoft is the possibility of switching between the automatic storage to manual storage management. It has to be noted that the automatic settings uses more resources for site collections while the manual settings limit the user’s ability to use the storage for a permissible level.
Microsoft has also lifted the cap for the creation of domains from 10,000 to 500,000 for the Office 365 customers.
