The new Moto X has been officially announced today. Motorola chose to announce the 2nd generation Moto X smartphone through a press event at Chicago instead of the ongoing IFA event in Berlin, Germany. Motorola Mobility also introduced the second generation Moto G and the Moto 360 smartwatch along with the new Moto X.
Motorola Mobility is still in the process of getting acquired by Lenovo which has also entered the smartphone market quite recently. The company which was struggling miserably in the past years suddenly came to life thanks to the first generation Moto X which came out in Aug 2013. Now, the successor model of the Moto X has been revealed to the world.
The second generation Moto X which was being referred with different names such as Moto X+1 and Moto X2 has finally arrived with the same name of ‘Moto X’. The new upgraded Moto X is loaded with numerous features and seems to be a good competitor for high-end smartphones.
Motorola Moto X Price
The Motorola Moto X price has been revealed. The new Moto X can be yours with an on-contract price of $100. It will first arrive on AT&T and Verizon. If you want to buy unlocked Moto X with 16GB internal storage, you will have to shell out $500.

Design and Display
The new Moto X appears like a premium handset. Motorola has dumped the plastic frame to make way for aluminum frame running around the edges of the device. The device is not that thin as its thickness is 9.97mm. It measures 140.8 x 72.4mm. The handset weighs 144g. The usual color option in which the handset will be available in is black and white.
The Moto X is slightly curved from behind. The handset will be available in a new leather variant with four color options like natural, cognac, black and navy. Motorola has done a great job by offering high quality leather coming straight from The Horween Leather Company which is based in Chicago.
The handset does not feature water-resistant properties but the water repellent coating can certainly protect the Moto X handset from occasional water splashes. One can use the Moto Maker customization feature to custom-order the new Moto X.
The Moto X houses a 5.2inch AMOLED display screen that is protected by Gorilla Glass coating. As expected, the display supports full HD resolution. It comes with a rich pixel density of 424ppi. The display appears large thanks to thin bezels on the sides.
Processor, RAM and Storage
Under the hood of the Moto X smartphone, there is a powerful quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor which clocks at 2.5GHz. It is well supported by Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB RAM.
When it comes to internal storage, the Moto X can offer you with two options like 16GB and 32GB. Like the predecessor model, the Moto X does note feature any microSD slot.
On the software front, the Android v4.4.4 KitKat is the operating system that will come preloaded on the Moto X. The Android version is present in its stock edition but the handset comes with plenty of preloaded apps. Specs revealed by the company indicate that the Moto X will be one of the first devices to get the Android L OS when it is released.

Without touching the Moto X, you can launch and use your favorite apps like Facebook and Whatsapp. You can also add personalized voice prompts to use Moto X with voice commands. Currently, the feature only few set of apps which also includes YouTube.
When the display of the Moto X turned off, it will still continue to display up to three alerts that you may set according to your preference. This feature will allow you to see new message or call alerts without touching the display. Touching on the notification will not wake up the display but it will show more information of that alert. By sliding left or right, you can view other messages without unlocking or waking the display
The Moto Assist will make your busy life easy. When you are driving your car, the feature will let the handset read out the new SMS. Also, the handset will automatically switch to silent when you go to bed or attend meetings. When you get up in the morning or come out of the meeting, the silent mode will be deactivated automatically.
By using gestures, you can interact with the all new second generation Moto X. When you receive a phone call, you can simply wave your hand over the handset to silent the ringtone. Also, by waving your hand, you can enable Moto Display.
Viewing the backside of the Moto X will reveal the 13MP shooter sitting about the attractive Motorola logo. The original Moto X came with a 10MP shooter. The new one comes with features like autofocus and dual LED flash. It also supports full HD 1080p video recording.
Best Shot is a new camera feature that automatically snaps extra photos before and after you snap a photo. The handset quickly analyzes all the snapped photos and eliminates blurry and low quality images. You can then choose the photo you snapped or from a range of other good photos.
Highlight Reel is also another feature that gets introduced on Moto X. It beautifully collages all the photos and videos that you shot throughout the day and present it to you as a video clip.
Connectivity Features, Sensors and Battery
The Moto X is packed with connectivity features such as 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, GPS, v4.0 Bluetooth and microUSB v2.0. The handset does not feature 4G LTE connectivity, HDMI connectivity and NFC. As far as sensors are concerned, the Motorola Moto X is equipped with the usual sensors like magnetometer, proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, and gyroscope.
The second gen Moto X will be running on 2300mAh battery. The company claims that handset can easily last for a day. For those of you who think otherwise can rely on the “turbo charger” shipped with handset to take advantage of additional 8 hours of battery life simply by charging the handset with it for 15 minutes.
