Samsung has often faced flak for continuing with plastic bodies for its flagship smartphone while most of its compatriots have shifted to metallic bodies. It seems that Samsung is finally going for a metallic body for its flagship brand. Although their flagship phablet the Galaxy Note 3 features good quality material body, most of their other smartphones didn’t.
According to rumors which has been sourced to a supply chain, Galaxy Alpha will be getting a metal body in preparation of an all metal body Galaxy S6.
Samsung has just unveiled its Galaxy S5 mini smartphone while its Tizen based smartphone Samsung Z launch has been delayed. The smartphone sales have tapered and profits have eroded leading to an urgent need to revamp its smartphone range.
Hence it is really good news when Samsung announced its first metal smartphone, the Galaxy Alpha. With the all metallic body Galaxy Alpha, Samsung has finally delivered a premium device design – but it’s just the beginning. The Galaxy Note 4 will also give Samsung an opportunity to test the waters with a metal mobile design in preparation for an all metal Galaxy S6.
The Galaxy Alpha isn’t entirely made of metal and features a polycarbonate rear much akin to the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy Note 4 will also feature a body much like Galaxy Alpha – An amalgam of metal and plastic.
However all these are just rumors and must be taken as such. In the past there were rumors which hinted that the Galaxy S4 and S5 will be available in metallic body but it turned out to be false. So who knows it will be the same story again. However this time the situation is much different. Samsung is not in the same position as it was in the past and hence it is possible that it will go for an all metallic body for its next iteration of its Galaxy Smartphone.
Furthermore, Galaxy S series phones are Samsung’s flagship phones. Soon Apple will be unveiling their highly anticipated iPhone 6. Apple was always unmatched when it comes to hardware quality. And if Samsung wants to compete with Apple’s soon to be released iPhone 6, then for Galaxy S6, they will have to come up with some mainstream metal.
