School Teachers carrying weapons in school? It is difficult to understand the logic of allowing teachers carry concealed weapons. For one teacher are not trained to carry and handle safely fire arms as was evident in an unfortunate incident which severely injured a teacher.
A school teacher had shot herself on her leg accidentally when a concealed weapon which she was carrying discharged in a faculty bathroom. The incident happened before the classes commenced on Thursday. The incident happened in Westbrook Elementary School, in the suburbs of Taylorsville.
School District spokesman Ben Horsley informed that a teacher named Michelle Ferguson-Montgomery was severely wounded on her leg when a bullet pierced her leg. She was taken by emergency workers to a city hospital where her condition improved. She is in a good condition and alert.
Utah happens to be one of the states which allow its citizens to carry concealed weapons. Teachers are not required to disclose if they have concealed weapons. Teachers who conceal weapons in the state of Utah are required to carry weapons with them at all times, including inside a bathroom stall.
The gunshot was heard by the students and they could have seen the teacher being rushed to a hospital. The classes are however continuing as usual. Crisis counselors are also at hand to take care of any eventuality. Police are trying to ascertain how the gun went on suddenly. The identity of the woman has not been declared though it was said that she carried the weapon legally.
