Remember the Mustang which was introduced in 1984? The year when Ronald Reagan was running for re-election, Madonna and Michael Jackson were the pop idols and fuel prices shooting after the 1979 Iranian revolution. Ford had unveiled a Mustang that year but alas! People did not have an appetite for the gas guzzling monster.
Ford has just introduced the 2015 Mustang but with a rider and you may find it a bit hard to believe- The 2015 Ford Mustang’s roar is being enhanced by its stereo system!
It is two decades since Ford designed a Mustang with a 4 cylinder engine. Ford designed the award winning EcoBoost engine changes that with a 2.3-liter amalgamation of power and efficiency.
Now the 2015 Mustang’s EcoBoost engine and its earth shattering roar drops when the sound system’s fuse is removed. This was discovered by Road & Track’s Jason Cammisa when during a test ride he removed the fuse of the sound system and found the Mustang become dumb and its mighty roar change to a purr- the pony car lost its voice!
That is some news now and many fans have been shell shocked. However this is not something like a bolt out of the blue, Chief Mustang Engineer Dave Perciak revealed in a 2013 interview that the car’s engine sound would be amplified by its sound system.
Perciak was asked if the Mustang’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost would sound like it belonged in the vehicle. This was his answer “With the EcoBoost engine we have both active noise cancellation and we also amplify the existing engine sound order. We don’t create an artificial sound; we don’t pluck one off the shelf; we bring in the real sound, process it, and play it through the car’s speakers. Today’s V6 sounds fantastic, and although the EcoBoost won’t sound like a V8, it won’t sound like it doesn’t belong in a Mustang, either.”
