A new Baghdad suicide bomb tragedy attack that took place on Monday was reported by local officials today. The suicide bomber was reported driving a van full of dangerous explosives which led to the tragedy that killed 27 Shi’ite militiamen and wounded many more in the town of Jurf- al-Sakhar, near Baghdad.
The number of dead people is 27 and the number of wounded militiamen is 60. The tragic attack comes after the Islamic State militants were pushed by security forces out of the disputed area in the last few days that marked the weekend.
Local officials have reported that the Baghdad suicide bomb tragedy was caused by a suicide attacker who supposedly stole a Humvee vehicle from the government troops that had been defeated in the area, packed it with explosives and relished hell on earth in the Iraqi town of Jurf-al-Sakhar, near Baghdad. The militiamen caught in the attack are said to be part of the military team that helped local government forces retake the town under custody.
The greatest fear that has been expressed by local officials is that such suicide bomb tragedies might continue in the area due to various circumstances that make them a threat such as the upcoming religious festival of Ashura. Sectarian attacks on Shi’ites are not perceived as a surprise by officials at this time and they are already taking severe actions in their attempt to avoid further tragedies from occurring with the occasion of this religious event.
The conflict in the area is all about the way in which Shi’ites are seen by the Islamic States, namely as traitors who deserve nothing but to die and they do not have any kind of issues with launching such suicide bomb attacks on them if this means having at least some of them killed. Violence has always been an issue in the area but now it seems to have reached new levels that make it seem so close to a new civil war in the area.
Jurf al-Sakhar represents a critical security force area which also makes it the number one target for such bomb attacks close to Baghdad. There have been months of fighting and numerous lives lost in the war between Iraqi security forces and the militants who are kept away from Baghdad at the moment.
The pressure on military forces in this area is enormous. The real tragedy is that innocent people die caught in a war that does not seem to find its end in the near future.
