Uber has just received notice from a new lawsuit on grounds of faulty feature. The plaintiff is a French businessman from Côte d’Azur who saw how his marriage broke into pieces because of the transportation company he chose. The case asks for $48 million for Uber to pay the damages it presumably caused that led to an affair exposing.
Le Figaro is a French news website that has just published an unprecedented lawsuit. According to the publication, a wife discovered a glitch in the Uber application. Thanks to this bug, she was able to spy on her husband and find out the places he visits in real time. It seems that the notification the man received were also sent over to his spouse.
One thing led to another, and the wife asked for a divorce. It is not clear whether the businessman was actually having an affair or not. However, whether it was true or not, the spouse had sound reasons to reach this decision of terminating her own marriage. It seems that it all began with the company sending a software update back in December. The new version was trying to fix a bug problem that made journey notifications visible even after a log out of the app on iOS. This is the moment the plaintiff started having problems. One time only, he used his wife’s iPhone to order an Uber. However, the bug remembered his credentials even after he logged off. Thus, the wife kept receiving the history of his journeys entirely.
The businessman is now suing the company for affair exposing which ruined his marriage. He is asking for $48 million to cover the damages. His lawyer, David-André Darmon, stated that the private life of his client was affected by an application bug severely. Even though the plaintiff made sure he disconnected his account from his wife’s iPhone, the app did not respect his instructions. On the other hand, Uber declined to comment on the event. The spokesperson mentioned that it is against the policy for the company to divulge details about individual cases.
The lawsuit was opened in Grasse, France, and it is going to coordinate a preliminary hearing in the month of March. There are no additional details to explain why the businessman asks for such a high sum of money.
