Amazon is getting into the online grocery business. The brownstone Brooklyn neighborhood is the first in New York City for AmazonFresh, the new web retailer’s point-and-click home for food shopping.
AmazonFresh has launched its Grocery Delivery service in Brooklyn and there are plans to expand it into new areas. Online retail Giant Amazon has chosen Brooklyn brownstone neighborhood as its first spot to launch its online grocery business. AmazonFresh, is going to offer more than 500,000 items for home delivery.
The inventory includes typical supermarket fare, plus household goods, electronics and an assortment of products from New York specialty shops. The Online Retail Giant is banking on a neighborhood which is teeming with food options which includes average sized supermarkets, cheese shops, the Park Slope Food Coop and a newly built Whole Foods Market across 3rd Avenue in Gowanus.
The Park Slope is the best suited location which could fit in for the Amazon’s grocery delivery. The AmazonFresh is going to expand in more Brooklyn neighborhood in the coming future. AmazonFresh has promised delivery same day delivery on orders which are placed before 10A.M.An option for early morning delivery for orders placed by 10PM the night before.
It is convenient for those people who are too busy to go to a grocery shop for shopping. Amazon.com is expanding its online grocery delivery program. It is a smart move by Amazon which is unveiling its “Fresh” program and is entering one of the largest retail sectors which has been untouched by online commerce.
An Amazon spokeswoman said in an e-mail, “Currently, we are offering AmazonFresh in Brooklyn and will continue being thoughtful and methodical in our expansion.”
Grocery is a very sticky segment and many big houses have burnt their fingers by dabbling in grocery business. If Amazon can make a successful venture in Park Slope and manage to get customer loyalty and boost sales it will be the most talked about success stories.
