Life is full of miracles and many people say the greatest one is the miracle of birth. But to give birth to a child one hour after you found you are pregnant might be once in a lifetime shock. A young woman living in Massachusetts went to a health center complaining about lower back pains and returned home with a newborn.
Katie Kropas, the unknowing mother- to- be, woke up Tuesday morning with unbearable lower pack aches. She raced to the nearest medical center and was ‘diagnosed’ with something she would have never expected- a child. According to Kropas, the physicians told her that she was at the end of her pregnancy term and the baby was pushing to come. That happened around at 10:15 a.m. and the baby was delivered in less than an hour, at 11:06 a.m. Little Ellie came into the world in a good health, weighting 10 pounds and 2 ounces.
The ‘surprise mother’ was stunned by the event as she did not show any common signs of pregnancy in the previous months. Sure, Katie Kropas gained some pounds but she thought her belly was Christmas season weight and never once suspected she was pregnant.
Medically, her condition is called “cryptic” pregnancy and is the theme of a well-known TV show dubbed “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant.” Dr. Kim Dever, of South Shore Hospital where Kropas gave birth to her child, said the medical staff there delivers round 3,500 baby per year out of which very few are “cryptic”.
The head of obstetrics at the healing center, Dever said “cryptic” pregnancies develop particularly if a lady is overweight or doesn’t have regular periods. The soon-to be mother may not feel her baby moving because the placenta is also positioned differently.
Dever noted that, in most cases, particularly during a first pregnancy, future mouthers are not fully mindful of what they are experiencing. As a result they will ascribe gas or pains to other medical conditions.
Korpas’ mother was equally shocked and could not believe her eyes. The new grandmother, who lives with young Korpas said her daughter did not exhibit any signs she was expecting a child.
The newly mother wants to make up for the lost time though she is aware it is going to be difficult. Korpas said she loves her baby daughter even if she did not have time to prepare for the new baby.
