The body of 20th Century Fox’s distribution executive Gavin Smith who disappeared over two years ago has been found and identified by the Los Angeles County coroner.
Gavin Smith who was legally declared dead on May 1, 2014 had not been seen for 2 years, since May 1, 2012.
Nicole Nishida, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Smith’s body was found in the High Desert, in a rural area of Palmdale by hikers on October 26. Gavin Smith was 57 years old when he disappeared. The cause of the man’s death and the matter in which it occurred are still unclear, said Nishida.
The man was last seen alive leaving a friend’s house in Ventura County. His car, a Mercedes-Benz was later found in Simi Valley in a storage unit in February 2013. There were dozens of searches around the area in which Smith disappeared and a $20,000 reward was posted by the man’s family.
Smith’s car was found by authorities in February 2013 in a storage locker connected to James Creech who received an eight-year conviction for an unrelated drug sentence. The vehicle condition and statements from witnesses made the Sherriff Department believe that Smith was murdered. The authorities refused to discuss the matter despite the fact that they were having “a good idea” of what the motive of the crime was. James Creech, at the time of his sentencing, told a Times reporter that he had never in his life met Gavin Smith.
Officials, however say that there is a connection between Creech’s wife and Gavin and that they have met in rehab. Sherriff Lieutenant Dave Dolson refused to comment whether their relationship was of the romantic kind or not but did say that they knew each other.
James Creech, being picked up by the Glendale police as a result of a drug bust, was trialed in 2012 for one count of transporting and selling cocaine in which he pleaded no contest. Creech told the police he was just a middle man working between street dealers and drug producers.
Gavin Smith is not believed to have any involvement with drugs by the authorities.
