The research was conducted at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The results of the study have shown that there’s a decrease in the percentage of physical disabilities among children. However the mental and abnormal brain development related disabilities rose to an astonishing 21 percent.
The study is based on the data collected by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) between the years 2001 to 2011.
They also claimed that children born to economically backward parents are the most sufferers compared to the economically stable families. However it has to be also noted that their results also shown that there is an increase of 28.4 percent disability rate among the children born to financially well settled families.
Dr Nader Younes, who works at a Paediatric Healthcare center in Altoona, said he has noticed a big spike among baby patients suffering from the disease Autism. He also said that the increase in diagnosis rate of autism could be mainly because of the increase in the awareness about the disease among the parents.
Dr Nader Younes explained, “My feeling is the problem has been there, but right now, maybe in the last ten years, we are more aware of it and we get more help from schools and daycare and it helps to diagnose this kind of disability.”
The researchers has also revealed that beside’s autism, they have found a good spike in the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
