Foursquare was a very popular mobile app for many years. It was fun, frolic and business too with many companies jumping onboard the ‘check-in’ box offering discounts or goodies to persons who advertised their presence.
However all good things needs to end some day and Foursquare had to do some restructuring. Foursquare launched a new app last year and it did not make much impact. It is the third quarter and Foursquare is facing tough times. The latest app could garner #385 overall in the United States while the highest rank in the Google Play Store is 448. The figures keep getting worse and today it does not feature in the Android 500 at stood 1214 overall in the US. These statistics were gathered by the app tracking site App Annie.
Foursquare’s US travel apps highest rating was 17 and this is not very good for an app which has made travelling a pleasure. It now ranks as #38 on iOS and has fallen from #21 to #30 among travel apps on the Android operating system.
Foursquare has been playing to the crowd and tried to woo the mobile consumers with its “Swarm”. However it was also not received very well by the consumers and stood at # 997 positions in the US App Store. Its predecessor is also out of the Google 500 in the Google Play Store. Swarm stood at# 11 positions in iOS and #84 on Android‘s OS.
There is nothing permanent in the app scene. It is always in a state of dynamic flux and if you do not recognize the winds of change, you can find yourself at the nadir of affairs. Looking at Google Trend data it seems the only way the fortunes of Foursquare will go is: Down.
