It is an anti climax of the worst kind. After spending billions of dollars to discover the elusive Higgs Boson ‘God Particle’ scientists are back to square one- the much touted discovery of the God Particle at CERN may not be the Higgs Boson.
Mads Toudal Frandsen, a particle physicist from the University of South Denmark, said via press release, “The CERN data is generally taken as evidence that the particle is the Higgs particle. It is true that the Higgs particle can explain the data but there can be other explanations, we would also get this data from other particles.”
Frandsen was skeptical about claims by CERNS researchers that they have unearthed the elusive Higgs Boson and asked for more evidence in support of their claims.
The CERN team must have discovered what is termed the techni-higgs.
Frandsen said, “A techni-higgs particle is not an elementary particle. Instead, it consists of so-called techni-quarks, which we believe are elementary. Techni-quarks may bind together in various ways to form for instance techni-higgs particles, while other combinations may form dark matter. We therefore expect to find several different particles at the LHC, all built by techni-quarks.”
Techni Higgs particle could be related to Higgs Particle and more data from CERN will help to clear the mist from the fact that they have actually discovered the God Particle or a techni higgs.
Last year, researchers at the CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) declared that they have discovered a particle that might be Higgs Boson. Higgs Boson is an elementary particle which gives mass to other particles. However latest research have revealed that the discovered particle might not be the Higgs boson.
It must be noted that these hypothesis does not diminish the importance of the particle discovered by CERN. It could be possible that CERN researchers have discovered the elusive Higgs particle. However that it can also be possible that the particle just looks like the Higgs particle.
