Jesse Matthew was charged with abducting 18-year-old Hannah Graham and arrested in September. The remains of the girl were found after a month long search near Charlottesville. Officials and residents have gone to great lengths during that time to find Graham. Chief Longo of the Albermarle County police also said the search was unprecedented.
“Countless hours — thousands of hours — have been spent by literally hundreds of law enforcement and civilian volunteers in an effort to find Hannah. We think perhaps today proved their worth.
The remains of the girl will be transported to Richmond to the state’s chief medical examiner. The medical examiner will also determine the identity of the remains.
DNA evidence also linked Matthew to the 2009 abduction and murder of Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student. Virginia State Police is confident they found a new “forensic link”.
