Authorities discovered the body of a 6 year old boy who was thrown off a bridge by his mother in Oregon’s Yaquina Bay on early Tuesday. The mother was immediately arrested after telling the police that she had thrown her son off the bridge and is now charged with murder.
Jillian McCabe called 911 on Late Monday to announce the police of Newport, Oregon, that she had thrown London, her son, off a bridge. An intensive search was mounted by authorities, which alerted the Coast Guard and the fire department. A helicopter backed up the search. Jillian claimed during the 911 call that she had heard voices instructing her to throw the 6 year old off the bridge. Witnesses also called in to report the woman walking along the bridge with the boy and then throwing him over.
Jonathan Klingenberg, Coast Guard spokesman announced on Tuesday that the body of the boy was recovered after a good Samaritan announced authorities that he had spotted London from a restaurant overlooking the Yaquina Bay Bridge.
“The fire department got there first and recovered the body,”
Klingenberg told reporters.
“It’s absolutely a tragedy. Most of us all have families.”
Jillian McCabe, London’s 34 year old mother was located near the bridge before the discovery of her son’s body. Detectives interviewed the woman before arresting her and charging her with murder, aggravated murder and 1st degree manslaughter.
McCabe’s bail has been set at $750,000.
The bridge is more than 100 feet high, and even if the boy would have survived the fall by some miracle, Newport Police Chief Miranda Mark, said, there was no chance for him to survive the cold water for more than 20 minutes.
Mark expressed her regrets, saying that the loss of the child wouldn’t be easy for the family.
