A new study claims that the behavior of men could be affected by the size of women’s heel size.
Nicholas Guéguen of the Université de Bretagne-Sud in France said the study shows how men prefer attractive physical characteristics. Guéguen analyzed in the study the reactions of 90 randomly selected men with the ages of 25 to 50 on the street in Brittany, France.
They were asked by a 19 year old woman participant to fill in a survey. She once wore flat shoes that measured 0.5 cm, once shoes with the heel size of 5 cm and one more time wearing heels measuring 9 cm.
The results showed that the responsiveness of men doubled from the lowest heel size to the highest.
The researcher also tested the empathy of people. He observed how around 180 men and 180 women reacted when four young females similar in weight, shoe size, and height dropped a glove on three different occasions differentiable by the heel size they wore. The women wore clothing that was similar and of the same color, as claimed by the study, and each of them dropped the glove wearing three different pair of shoes with the same heel size as the women asking for the filling of the survey.
The women did not respond differently relating to the heel sizes of the women dropping the glove but the men helping them raised by one third from the flat ones to the 9 cm heel size shoes.
Guéguen also observed 36 men of ages between 20 and 58 in a bar. Guéguen discovered that men are a lot faster in starting a conversation with a woman wearing high heels. Within seven minutes, the men started chatting to the woman who helped conduct the experiment. It took the men 13 minutes to approach the woman while she was wearing flat shoes.
Guéguen said that a possible explanation to the findings includes the change in pace because of high heels or the modes appearance of the female foot when wearing shoes like that.
Guéguen believes that this happens also because numerous models are portrayed wearing high heels and men come to associate high heels with sexual intent.
