Electronic cigarette manufacturers are trying to find new ways of improving one of the most popular inventions of recent years. The electronic cigarette industry is worth billions of dollars and it seems that it keeps increasing. There is a new word added in the dictionary after the e-cigarette and even though health officials’ opinions are divided, the alternative to real cigarettes seems to become more and more popular.
Recent statistics show that in China there are more than 300 million smokers and is the country that uses the electronic cigarette the most. It is also the country where the device was invented in 2003. Since then, many companies have tried to improve the e-cigarette, make it healthier and provide many flavors to the smokers.
Last year there were more than 500 patented electronic cigarette patented inventions and this year the number has gone up to 650.
The original electronic cigarette was a heating system powered by a battery that vaporized nicotine liquid and was invented by a Hon Lik, a medical researcher from China.
The companies are looking to create new patents for electronic cigarettes as many of the current ones are facing many bans from the World Health Organization. Some of the bans include interdictions on indoor use and sales to minors.
Many scientists fear that the electronic cigarette may fuel a new kind of nicotine addiction. Also, experts say that the scientific evidence that supports the safety of e-cigarettes is not that vast.
According to studies, 64% of electronic cigarette inventions come from China, 14% in the US and 9% in South Korea.
Some patented inventions are meant to regulate the smoker’s nicotine intake, others can help the smoker pay less money. There are thousands of e-cigarette flavors at the moment, from common ones like menthol to unusual ones like marshmallow. Some companies are trying to create an e-cigarette that delivers caffeine instead of nicotine.
