OKLAHOMA, November 9 – After state referendums have legalized recreational and medicinal marijuana, an Oklahoma-based e-cigarette retailer was encouraged to begin building a national franchise. Marijuana is still illegal under federal drug laws, however, Oregon, Washington and Alaska voters approved ballot measures for recreational marijuana use on Tuesday. This adds to already more than a dozen states where marijuana has become legal under a form or another.
The CEO and co-founder of Palm Beach, Chip Paul, believes that legalization of pot in so many states opens new doors for his company. He wants to market a method of producing cannabis oil vapor which can be administered with the help of an electronic cigarette. At the moment he is trying to patent the method. Paul’s company has already signed licensing deals in Colorado and California for, what he calls, the M system. Franchises are planned to open in other states in the future.
“This is a wave that’s kind of sweeping the nation.” – Paul Chip
At the moment, use of marijuana is illegal in Oklahoma. However, it is believed that the cannabis market will grow as more states begin to legalize it. Advocates have already planned several legalization initiatives in 2016 for Arizona, Maine, Nevada, Massachusetts, and California, says Ethan Nadelmann, executive director for the Drug Policy Aliance.
Paul Chip has already participated in an Oklahoma initiative petition that urged the legalization of medical marijuana. However, voters failed to gather enough signatures. The goal of the petition was to obtain approval of classifying marijuana as a herbal drug that would be controlled by the Oklahoma Department of Health. In other words, doctors would have been authorized to prescribe it for various medical conditions.
An Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs spokesperson also declared that the agency has serious concerns regarding the inhalation of cannabis oils through electronic cigarettes. He also added that this may be a way to disguise illegal use of marijuana.
E-cigarettes may look like normal cigarettes, but they work in an entirely different way. When the liquid nicotine is heated, the user inhales vapors that consist of water and oils. Cannabis oils and waxes work similarly. Palm Beach Vapors does not ship, purchase or distribute marijuana but it licenses the preparation method and additive which produces a glycerol base (where cannabis oils are evenly distributed).
“The whole country is going one way and Indiana is taking two steps back. We’ll be one of the last steps to legalize marijuana,” – Nate Renschler, owner of a Palm Beach Vapors franchise in Indiana
Renschler also believes that the state’s sentiment will change once officials understand the tax benefits of legalization. He is currently using Palm Beach Vapors to sell hemp oil, which he says, is good for general well-being.
Nevertheless, there are still many who believe that legalization might lead to problems with Teenagers. He also added that people who have purchased cannabis illegally from one state and are planning to sell it where it’s legal have been intercepted.
“It’s an easier way for people, especially our youth, to disguise their marijuana use.” – Woodward
