One of Pizza Hut’s main competition, Domino’s Pizza, already has a gluten-free pizza assortment but the company does not offer any guarantees that it is 100% no gluten. Domino’s pizza risks to be contaminated while being handled in the kitchen where it can come in contact with gluten products.
Pizza Hut however assures its customers that its pizza is 100% gluten-free. The company representatives explained that Pizza Hut has teamed up with Udi’s Gluten Free, the number one brand in North America specialized in gluten-free products.
Udi’s will be making the pizza crust and the Gluten Intolerance Group is in charge of verifying that pizzas are indeed 100% gluten-free.
The global CEO of Pizza Hut, David Gibbs, explained that his company has teamed up with some of the most respected companies in the gluten-free community to help develop the best and the safest pizza for the people who are allergic to gluten products. Gibbs added that even though the pizzas will be gluten-free, they will all taste great.
The gluten-free pizzas will come in different assortments including pepperoni and cheese, and will be available nationwide at select Pizza Hut restaurants.
Each gluten-free pizza will measure ten inches and can be cut into 6 slices and their price will start at $9.99.
To make sure the pizzas will not come in contact with any gluten molecules, the restaurants will be taking the strictest of measures.
The ingredients, as well as the crust, will be kept in a special place that will be gluten-free. The employees who will be in charge of making the gluten-free pizzas will wear gloves and will bake it on parchment paper, making sure to cut it using a gluten-free cutter.
The company announced that the gluten-free pizza will be available starting January 26.
According to recent reports, 1% of the American population actually suffers from celiac disease and approximately 2.5% are sensitive to gluten products, without suffering from celiac disease.
