Santa’s bag filled with rain and thunderstorms this Christmas. Powerful rains, thunderstorms and strong winds are announced for the holiday season. The forecasters have announced a rainy Christmas and delayed flights.
“It’s going to be a rainmaker, for sure. There’s the threat of locally heavy rain and this system could be windy enough to disrupt travel at airports in the East,” Roy Lucksinger, lead meteorologist at The Weather Channel,
The bad weather prognosis might affect and delay the travel plans for millions of Americans travelling to celebrate Christmas.
National Weather Service officials have already announced that they are expecting serious rain and wind activity, which might delay flights in New York City, exactly on Christmas Eve.
The situation in the rest of the areas doesn’t sound much better either. Forecasters said that the heavy rain and strong wind predicted for the Christmas Eve, will cause delays in plenty other airports as well.
According to the weather.com, airports in Atlanta, Charlotte and Florida could also be affected by thunderstorms and rain. Also the weather may arrive to cause delays in Detroit ad Cincinnati and possibly in Chicago, Milwaukee, and St.Louis.
The weather forecast doesn’t give great hopes for snow in most of the country apart from Wisconsin and the North part of Michigan. So this year might no be the one for a snowy, white Christmas.
On Christmas day the temperatures going down may transform rain into snow in regions such as the eastern great Lakes and the Mountains of west Virginia, possibly New England too.
The National Weather Service has announced that a cold front going from North to South is expected on Tuesday to move from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast, with snow falls in the North Midwest and Plains regions. The snow falls are expected to be accompanied by heavy winds. Rain will move to the Lower Mississippi Valley, Southeast, Gulf Coast and also Florida, according to weather.com
The good new is that the roads should be clear thanks to the mild temperatures and lack of snow. So people traveling on by car shouldn’t face any difficulties.
