The concept of automatic car for Tesla might take some more time to arrive. According to the statement given by Tesla’s Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk, this could happen “maybe five or six years from now,” where drivers can “literally get in the car, go to sleep, and wake up at (their) destination.”
“They will be a factor of 10 safer than a person [at the wheel] in a six-year time frame,” said Musk.
The tweet made by the CEO of the battery-electric technology leader, Tesla Motors Inc., based in Palo Alto, California, gained much speculation and raise in the company’s shares.
The tweet said “About time to unveil the D and something else,” and was posted along with a teaser image of front of a car concealed in a garage with a letter ‘D’ having timestamp of Oct 9.
Later Musk mentioned: I love the Internet. Comments had me literally ROFL. No, it wasn’t intentional. Glad I didn’t mention the other letter!

The meaning of ‘letter D’ and ‘something else’ was not revealed at the time but Musk cleared the meaning and said that the “D” was an all-wheel drive Model S (a dual motor version also), while the “something else” refers to the Autopilot feature.
“Tesla is going to do quite a bit of development itself,” he said but didn’t disclose the name of any development partners by name.
There is currently nothing beyond Model X and a planned lower-cost sedan(Model 3) in Tesla’s list, but Musk said that “significant” product news is under process. Tesla is the chief manufacturer of the Model S sedan, price starting from $70,000. The processors for current versions of the Model S, has been supplied by Chipmaker Nvidia Corp. (NVDA).
Musk said, “That seems like an unlikely thing to happen just based on a tweet, but I don’t know. Maybe – I don’t know. Maybe it’s surprising. I don’t really follow the stock that much. So I think the stock moves for random reasons. And if that ends up being a mood barometer than it’s not a happy land,” when asked to comment on the rise of the stock by Tesla Motors Inc after his Tweet.
