Tinder is a free on-line dating app for Android or iPhone that requires a Facebook account to use it. It was released two years ago and currently is a serious competitor to major on-line dating sites such as Match.com and eHarmony.
Its increased popularity may be linked to its mobility and the feeling that the app is nothing more than a prolongation of its users’ Facebook accounts.
Some users were also pleased that Tinder is more centered on the building-a-relationship part, rather than lets-meet-up-and-have-sex. Although, insecure people may find this a little bit challenging.
Tinder is also very convenient and it doesn’t put pressure on its users to meet up or have a chat if they don’t want to. You can check photos and profiles of potential dates and decide whether a person is worth chatting with, or it would be better to pass to another. And all this with a swipe of a finger.
Tinder has also some competition. Many mobile dating-app makers copy it and try to add an extra twist to their products. For instance, Hinge is a mobile app that scans for dates only in the friends of friends section of your Facebook account.
Clover is also a smartphone dating app that provides an extra but strange feature: “On-Demand Dating.” So, users can only pick a date and a location and the app sends them a matching date. The How About We app focuses on a have-fun approach since users can come up with the idea of a fun date and see who is also interested.
There are, however, dating apps that cater for certain groups like pot smokers (High There!) or highly ambitious elites (The League).
Julie Spira, a blogger who runs a site about cyber dating, said that the increased popularity of the smartphones led to a proportional increase in the dating app use.
People are dating on the fly, they’re dating in real time, they’re hooking up or meeting for dates, they’re doing both. Same day, same hour,”
And Tinder is more convenient because it doesn’t require a hard work to build an appealing on-line profile. However, the drawback is that sometimes you don’t know very much about a person, except that she looks awesomely hot in those bikinis.
However, its easy to use feature made Tinder so popular over the past couple of years. According to the company, the app matches daily nearly 12 million people , and records more than 1 billion swipes.
