The U.S D.EA has announced an initiative to collect the unused prescription drugs from the patients. They want the unused drugs to go back to the hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. The strong reason behind this initiative is the swiftly growing drug abuse cases in United States of America. More than 50% of the unintentional deaths in US are caused by the wrong usage of prescribed drugs. More than 7 million aged above 13 are using invalid prescribed drugs. In order to reduce the drug abuse rate, this kind of resolution has become mandatory for Drug Enforcement Administration of the USA.
This surprisingly big news brings lot of changes in homes. This makes the homes to send back the stocks of unused medicine back to the pharmacies. There were many cases where the teenagers at home use those unused medicines as drugs. Drug return program which is rewriting the Controlled Substance Act is coming into activity in the next month. This act also included the controlled substances. Even the depressants like Ativan, psychoactive pain killers like Vicodin and OxyContin and Stimulants like Adderall are considered as unused drugs.
In the recent survey conducted by Drug Free Kids Study, it was recorded that more than 75% of teenagers at home feel easy to steal the unused drugs from their parent’s desks. D.E.A had been conducting a drug take back event for every four months from the last four years. More than 2000 tons of unused prescribed drugs were collected and disposed. It’s an accepted truth that the collected drugs were just in infinitesimally small factions.
Previously, consumers used to throw off the unused medicines in thrash. But it’s not a wise move towards the Environment protection. The D.E.A is planning to conduct large campaigns to increase awareness in people towards this new movement.
