The younger generation doesn’t even remember the most popular music-playing device that came out long before the iPod or the smartphone.
The first cassette player was launched in 1979 and it was called a Walkman. Sony sold more than 220 million pieces of it before many other companies started to copy the product and manufacture it under their brand.
The Walkman was replaced by the portable CD player and the CD player was replaced by the mp3 player. Sony announced at the 2015 CES in Las Vegas that they have been working on a new Walkman that will bring back the high-quality audio and more than 60 hours of battery life.
The new Sony Walkman is called NW-ZX2 and it’s said to offer the highest audio quality than most of the portable music players available. Sony said that it wanted to remind people of how music should be heard and replace the smartphones as the main device used for listening music.
The new Sony Walkman will replace the MP3 format with a higher quality one called the LDAC codec. This format requires more storage space and each song takes up to 150 MB. In order to make it happen the new Sony Walkman comes with 128 GB of memory and can be extended to 256 GB using a microSD card.
One of the best features about the new Sony Walkman is the battery life. Sony promised that the new portable music player can last for 60 hours of heavy using.
Sony announced that the NW-ZX2 Walkman will go on sale in Europe this spring and it will cost approximately $1,200.
The Walkman features a gold-plated copper chassis that was designed to reduce any unwanted noise. It will run on an Android 4.2, which will allow the user to download videos and games from Google Play store.
Sony said at the 2015 CES about the new Walkman that it will be like someone removing a veil from the ears, that’s how good the audio quality is. Sony recommended the USB headphone amplifier and a set of MDR0Z7 headphones to go with the new Walkman, for an unforgettable audio experience.
