According to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, a wildfire burning in 300 acres near the Yosemite National Park has forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes. One firefighter has been injured while fighting the blaze. The area is about 15 miles southwest of Yosemite.
California Fire department reported that the Bridge fire in Mariposa was first reported on Friday afternoon near Highway 49 at Harris Road. A portion of state Route 49 that leads into the park has been closed.
The firefighter who sustained injuries while fighting the blaze was taken to the hospital on Friday evening. The California fire department spokeswoman Karen Guillemin told the Los Angeles Times that the injuries were not life threatening.
The residents from more than 700 homes near the blaze site were evacuated and sent to an evacuation shelter which was opened at New Life Christian Fellowship on Cole Road in the community of Bootjack. An additional 400 homes have been advised to evacuate.
Authorities are trying to ascertain the cause of the blaze. The firefighters are still fighting the fire till the last news came in. California fire department has reported that Fire Fighters have contained 25% of the blaze.
Late Friday another blaze was reported 15 miles south in the community of Oakhurst. The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department said nearly 300 alert calls telling residents to evacuate were sent out but they have now been cancelled after the fire was contained within 5 acres.
A blaze that broke out nearly four weeks ago in far northern California spread to nearly 130 square miles.
Another Fire Reported From North Corvallis
Another fire ripped through 150 acres near Chip Ross Park and the Timberhill neighborhood in north Corvallis on Friday night. Firefighters were extinguishing the scattered fires on Saturday morning. The firefighters managed to contain about 70 percent by 3 a.m. Oregon Department of Forestry managed to fully contain the fire by 5AM with the help of a bulldozer according to Corvallis Fire Department. The city of Corvallis closed Chip Ross Park on Saturday until further notice.
